Conversational English Tutor

 

Description:

Volunteers assist a second language learner in improving his/her skills in English, especially conversational skills for everyday living in Canada. Tutors come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Tutors will play a major role in helping their learners feel comfortable in their second language and in Canada in general. The learner can ask the volunteer questions about the many aspects of living and working in Canada.

Volunteers are matched with a newcomer and meet once a week for 1-2 hours for a period of 4 – 6 months. Volunteer tutors should have relatively strong English language skills (especially spoken English).
Requirements: Confidentiality, Work Without Supervision.

Training Details: Orientation and training will be provided by the organization.
Working Conditions: Volunteers may meet with learners in public settings such as libraries, cafes, etc.
Duration: 4 – 6 months
Timing: Anytime
Time Detail: 1-2 hours a week for approximately 6 months. Time to be agreed upon by tutor and Learner.
Age: 18+
Transportation: On a bus route
Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible entrance, Wheelchair accessible washroom, Support Newcomers
